Buongiorno cari amici, and welcome to one of Italy’s most iconic historic cities! You may have heard of the homeland of Neapolitan pizza, but there is so much more to Naples that will blow your mind. It dates back to 3000 years ago, when the ancient Greeks founded the city, and over the years, it has changed a lot, but believe me, its charm remains the same.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site contains catacombs from the 3rd century, historic churches, and castles built hundreds of years ago. But let’s not forget the delicious ice cream and solid aromatic coffee that you must try at least once in your life!
With its beautiful narrow cobbled streets and romantic squares and castles, you’ll love the atmosphere of Naples so much that you’ll want to add a few more days to your trip.

Old Case | Neighborhood to stay for the first time
Located on the east side of the city, the “Centro Storico” in Italian is one of the best places to stay if you are traveling to Naples for the first time, as it is also known as the “heart of Naples.” This means that you will experience everything this city offers if you stay here. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995, many people fall in love with all the historical monuments after just one visit.
You can’t blame them, the magic of small cobblestone streets with huge historic buildings and balconies overlooking the city. Seeing where Italians hang their clothes will make you feel like you’ve landed in a fancy Italian movie.
This well-preserved area has restaurants on every corner; I always say that their cuisine is some of the best in the world, and I am sure you will agree with me! Most of them are located within walking distance of each other, so you can eat the famous Neapolitan pizza in one place and then go to another for tiramisu or a glass of wine. Perfect!
Trust me, and you’ll want to stay in one of the oldest cities in Europe, dating back to Greek times. The Centro Storico has many must-see attractions, such as the Gran Duomo and the Santa Chiara church.
Located in the heart of the city, this neighborhood still has some historic underground Greco-Roman ruins that you can see, so don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It is lovely to see how people lived thousands of years ago!

This elegant waterfront neighborhood is one of the best places to stay in Naples if you like to shop in high-end stores and indulge in the most expensive stores like Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Armani.
However, if you like unique, independent fashion boutiques owned by the locals of Naples, Italy, you’ll find plenty of those and some antique bookstores!
I highly recommend you to visit the Naples Antique Market in Chiaia.
Located a little further from the city center, this Neighborhood is excellent if you don’t want to be in the middle of all the street noise. Chiaia has some of the best hotels in old historic buildings with huge rooms and unique sea views. You might even find one with a rooftop terrace or pool if you’re lucky.
If the gastronome in you is wondering where to stay in Naples to eat at the best luxury restaurants, then Chiaia will be your favorite spot. Places here still have that authentic local feel, but with a twist. I suggest you book all the hotels here in advance as it is a prime tourist destination for many people.
If you stay in Naples, you will find many attractions in this Neighborhood, such as the Villa Communale, a royal garden from the 18th century. You can walk here at sunset and admire the beautiful views, and if you feel like it, you can spend a day at the Naples Aquarium, which is located inside the park.

Vomere | Neighborhood to live like a local
This hilly neighborhood located in the eastern part of the city is one of the best places to stay in Naples and has the most incredible views of Naples. You can see the Historical Center, the Gulf of Naples, and Mount Vesuvius. With Chiaia and the Spagnoli neighborhood nearby, Vomero is perfect for those who crave that local, authentic experience.

It’s a high-class residential neighborhood, so you don’t have to worry about security.
I like the most about Vomero because there are no tour guides and no big crowds, so you can see the city as it is, with its lovely inhabitants having their coffees and enjoying la dolce vita. If you are looking for a place to stay in Naples so you can take the funicular cable car regularly, then Vomero is for you. You will find the cable car base in Via Toledo to go up the small mountain.
Many tourist attractions, such as the historic market in the Rione Antignano area and the Castel Sant’Elmo, were built-in 1200. It is the third castle in Naples, and you have to reserve at least half a day to visit it, learn new things about its historical culture and admire the incredible views. Spend the rest of your days wandering around Vanvitelli Square, eating delicious Italian street food, and shopping while you’re here.

Phillips | Neighborhood for families
A great place to stay in Naples if you are traveling with the whole crew and want to enjoy some peace. Posillipo is located after Chiaia, further west on the coast. Although you can get around the area by public transport, I highly recommend renting a car so you can explore it all.
I love finding new panoramic views of the cities I visit! I would take a whole afternoon to climb Posillipo hill and watch the sunset over Mount Vesuvius. You can even hit the beach and have a picnic with the family while you’re here or head to one of the great restaurants.
If the children feel like spending some time outdoors, you can take them to Parque Virgiliano. Make sure you check every nook and cranny of a new place because you never know what you might find. There is an excellent market in the park where you can buy souvenirs, and children can find some cool toys that will always remind them of beautiful Naples.
The great thing about Posillipo is that you can combine sightseeing with fantastic activities like snorkeling or kayaking. The island of La Gaiola is a place where you can see a protected archaeological zone under the sea with Roman ruins while doing all those fun underwater activities! I recommend you rent a car to get here super fast! Make sure you book all the hotels you like in advance, as this area is trendy, especially for people traveling with other family members.

Quartieri Spagnoli | economic Neighborhood
If you’re wondering if you can stay in Naples on a budget, you’ve come to the right place. Close to the city center, you will find many cheap hotels and Airbnbs in the traditional narrow Italian streets, full of shops and bars.
The food is fantastic here, I mean, all of Italy offers the most fantastic dining options, but here you have to try pizza fritta (fried pizza) at any of the street food trucks. Of all the areas we have talked about, in Quartieri Spagnoli, the street food business is very lively.
Take your camera because there is so much street art in this neighborhood that you will stop at every corner to take a photo to remember. If you find yourself in the southern part of Quartieri Spagnoli, you’ll be within walking distance of places like Piazza Plebiscito and the Opera House.
However, if you want to explore the area more, I recommend visiting beautiful churches such as Sant’Anna di Palazzo and Santa Maria Della Mercede, a Montecalvario from 1560. Another is the Maschio Angioino (Castel Nuovo), a symbolic monument of Naples built-in 1279. The view is impressive here!

Luxury | Boutique Caruso
I love the atmosphere of this 4-star boutique hotel in Quartieri Spagnoli. The rooms are very spacious, and their interior design is very historical. Get up in the morning and have your traditional Italian breakfast on the balcony, which has views of the city, and in the evening, go down to the bar and have a cocktail.

Central Station | Neighborhood to move easily
One of the best places to stay in the city if you want to travel and explore other cities, such as Pompeii, by train. In addition to the train station, you also have a metro station here, the Naples Piazza Garibaldi, to visit other parts of the city whenever you feel like it.
I highly recommend taking your Italian morning ritual (coffee and pastries) to Garibaldi square. It’s beautiful, and you can grab a coffee from Bar Mexico, come here early before everyone beats you to it, and just sit here with the best drink in Naples and enjoy the atmosphere before starting another day of sightseeing.
Located just east of the Historical Center and within walking distance, you can go on an excursion there anytime! If you are looking for a place to stay in Naples for only a short time, the Central Station area is perfect! You will be able to move quickly, and you will not waste time in traffic or in places full of tourists.
