Tired of the coastal climate, we decided to move toward the desert. We wanted non-stop sun and heat, in addition to vegetating for a while after several miles of travel. We were coming to the end of our California road trip.

We arrived in Palm Desert from San Diego, crossing the winding Santa Rosa Mountains via Route 74. The Coachella Valley contains nine cities and several non-city communities, including our destination and its neighbor, Palm Springs.
Our references from both places were scant. We knew that electronic music festivals were held, that classic movie stars like Elizabeth Taylor had had their vacation residence, and that, over the years, it had become a pole for design and luxury. All this is flanked by giant palm trees and geography where the desert mixes with green golf courses (there are around 110! according to what we read).
When we arrived at our hotel, Palm Desert welcomed us with an embrace of dry heat, envisioning the 37º that we would feel the following days (at the beginning of July). As a result of the above, we would always see the sidewalks of both this place and Palm Springs empty.
People live above the car and get out only to enter the stores. Walking is an activity reserved for the brave or enthusiastic like us (despite being 30 weeks pregnant at the time).
Aspects that firmly caught the sector’s attention are that several stores were closed and announced their return in September. In other words, unlike what would happen here, they close in the summer and resume activity in the fall. In addition, the opening hours are minimal, and at 7:00 p.m., for example, almost everything is closed.

We can see this both in the Uptown Design District of Palm Springs, a street of furniture stores, design + decoration objects, and art galleries, and in El Paseo, Palm Desert’s luxury shopping district, where brands such as Burberry Escada, Gucci, among others, chose to settle.

There I bought exquisite sunscreen from the Sun Bum brand (I wish I were in Chile!) and Ale bought Pedrito, a superhero or super cute “pilucho,” + a gadget to take funny photos with the cell phone.
Now, suppose you want to breathe luxury or buy it. If you have the budget, you must go through El Paseo in Palm Desert, an avenue of about ten blocks of fashion, jewelry, art galleries, beauty, and restaurants, where luxury is the host.
There the central tray and part of its sidewalks are “adorned” with sculptures of modern art, flowers, and ambient music, which comes out of small speakers housed on top of its palm trees.
There we only walked a few blocks and window-shopped the stores that were open or invited us to go in since many are inhibited when seeing their dependents (inevitably not feeling like “Pretty Woman” in the store scene because of the shorts and the summer outfit).
The heat made it almost impossible to walk along El Paseo (what a dialectical irony). Look at the speakers of the palm trees (behind me); everything is to generate a better environment for luxury shopping.
In both sectors and it’s neighbor Indian Wells (yes, where the tennis championship is held), it is full of street centers, with fashion stores, restaurants of various types (from fast food to white tablecloth), and supermarkets with salad bars. , so it is possible to “live more modestly” amid so much “desert waste.”
Oh! in this valley it is unthinkable to stay in a place without a swimming pool, at least, if you go in summer like us. The accommodation offered is enormous, ranging from golf resorts to mid-range hotels such as Western Union Plus.
On the other hand, public locomotion is very scarce, so I recommend you rent a car or find out very well about the local bus schedules so as not to die of dehydration waiting.
We liked this valley to rest, recover energy and see another Californian lifestyle whose biorhythm is directly influenced by the heat.
