Praia do Bordeira

We discovered Praia do Bordeira by chance during our round trip with the motorhome. Here, in the western Algarve, you will find an actual dream beach, isolated and away from the hustle and bustle. For us, it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal.

Dunes as far as the eye can see, waves breaking on the beach, and a lagoon that stretches behind the dunes. There’s often not a soul around, especially if you’re here off-season. You have a great view of the beach and the sea from the promenade and the stairs.

The beach is about 2.5 kilometers from Carrapateira. Coming from the south, follow the EN 120 in the direction of Aljezur. There are no toilets, restaurants, or shops directly on the beach. Only one wooden hut on the beach is open during the season and provides you with drinks. We have camped several times in front of the dunes in the car park. There it is tolerated but only recommended out of season.

Monte Clerigo Beach

We love the Monte Clérigo place! This charming place is also located in the western Algarve. It is only a 10-minute drive from Aljezur along a well-maintained “gravel road” (sand track). In Monte Clèrigo, there are some colorful houses, bars, restaurants, a car park, toilets, and showers.

You can look from the cliffs above the town to the sea and the beach: simply beautiful. However, if you are going to swim in the sea, you should not underestimate the ocean current.

Ribeira d’Ilhas Beach

Now we leave the Algarve for a moment and head to Ericeira. This city is an hour’s drive from Lisbon and impresses above all with its friendly atmosphere. There are numerous shops, restaurants, cafes, surf shops, and bars in the old town. We have spent many pleasant days here. You will reach Ribeira d’Ilhas beach after 3.5 kilometers if you leave the city heading north.

This beach is considered one of the best surfing and bodyboarding spots in Europe. There is a bar and a surf school on the beach. Here you can enjoy a drink and watch the waves. From the cliffs above the beach (Miradouro Ribeira d’Ilhas), you have a fantastic view of the sea and the beach. Next, a wooden ladder takes you down.

Dune Beach

We love the beaches around Peniche. Here you will also find excellent conditions for surfing throughout the year. If the waves at one beach are not very high and robust, you can find another beach with good conditions just around the corner.

We especially like Bocaxica beach (part of Dunas beach). It is comprehensive, infinitely long, and gives you wonderful beach days in summer. In Peniche, you will find countless surf shops, surf schools, restaurants, shops, bars, cafes, and accommodation.

Praia da Ursa

Do you want to experience a lonely beach in a unique setting? Next, head to Praia da Ursa. This beach is located a few kilometers from the westernmost point, “Cabo da Roca.” When you arrive in Sintra, follow the signs to Cabo da Roca.

A small dirt road runs off to the right just before the town. You will also see a sign that says “Praia da Ursa.” The way to the beach is a bit more complex, and you have to walk downhill from the end of the dirt road for about 20 minutes. But trust us, it’s worth it!

Amoreira Beach

Right next to Monte Clérigo beach is Praia da Amoreira. This beach is one of the most beautiful in the country! It is located at the end of a valley, through which the Ribeira de Aljezur River makes its way to the sea. The landscape here is impressive: the light sand, the dark rocks, the blue of the water. Simply WOW! The sand is piled up in dunes several meters high just behind the beach.

Galapagos Beach

If you are traveling through Lisbon, you should make a detour to the Setúbal peninsula. Here you will find numerous beaches that belong to the Arrábida Natural Park. Fine sand, crystal clear water, and a mountainous panorama in the background await you.

Praia Galapinhos is one of the most beautiful beaches in the country, which is not too crowded even in the high season. The green and blue water and the green rocks covered with vegetation are especially beautiful. From Lisbon, you drive on the N10 directly to the beach.
